Canadian Bespoke Strapworks

I contacted Kris at Canadian Bespoke Strapworks a while back and he has just completed a couple of totally hand made watch straps for me. The leather and Alcantara used matches the interior of my car so these incredible straps will look great on my Ka La watches while driving my "Beast".

All straps he makes are unique, no "production run" or "stock items" ever. If anyone is interested, he can be reached at: canadianbespokestrapworks@outlook.com

I won't get them until Thursday, but here are the photos from Kris:

Presentation Box Design

I'm doing the engineering now for a presentation/display box for my Ka La watches. The animated image is just a teaser showing the mechanism. The interesting part, which I will reveal later, is the lid design.

BaselWorld 2013

I'm off in less than a week to Germany and Switzerland to attend BaselWorld 2013. This annual watch and jewelry show held in Basel, Switzerland is the foremost watch show in the world. I will be assisting Ariel Adams of A Blog to Watch along with James Stacy (a contributing editor to ABTW). This will be my first BaselWorld, so I'm really looking forward to it. I won't be 'showing' my Ka La watches as an exhibitor, but I will of course have a number of them with me as personal wear items.

"Canadian Bespoke Strapworks" is making a couple of hand made, piece unique straps for me, They will be constructed using the same materials as the interior of my car (which has a factory custom interior). I will post some photos after I get these straps (which should be Thursday, April 18th).

I'm having my watchmaker assemble a couple more Ka La watches with Hawaiian Koa wood dials. These will use the blue ion plated round (and lumed) hour marker dials and will be fitted with blue hands for more contrast than the earlier 3 watches with Koa dials. As my car has Koa wood trim in it, I will mount the custom straps to Koa dialed Ka La watches. Photos to come...

Sport Watch Desgin

I'm back to designing dials and hands again. Trying out more of a sporty combination this time but still utilizing the Ka La case.

Some food for thought...

G-10 / NATO Strap

A comment on the A Blog To Watch review of my Ka La watches asked if a G-10, aka "NATO" strap could be mounted on a Ka La watch using springbars and the normal mounting points. The answer is yes.

Since the lug rings limit top clearance, I'd use a 1 mm nylon strap and not a thicker 1.2 mm strap. I have not tried a 1.2 mm, but I think that would be pushing it. The 1 mm strap shown mounts with ease.  With the reference 10222 shown, I think an all black or a black and red strap would look even better (as shown in this post).
